# Submit an expense

> Choose a regular, mileage, or per diem expense, verify any receipt-extracted values, and submit the claim for review.

**New Expense** offers Regular expense, Mileage, and Per diem claims. Pick the type that matches the work, then check the details and any receipt values before using **Submit expense**.

## Choose the claim type

Open **Expenses > New Expense**. A **Regular expense** is for a business expense with a receipt. **Mileage** records distance travelled in a personal vehicle. **Per diem** records a daily allowance for business travel. Each type shows its own fields, so complete the ones in the selected form rather than switching types after entering a claim.

## Enter details and check a receipt

Add the requested date, amount, category, description, or trip details. For a regular expense, choose or drop a receipt. Worklayer tries to read it and fill matching fields. Compare every extracted value with the receipt, especially amount, currency, date, and merchant information. You can correct fields manually if the extraction is wrong or fails.

The receipt control also lets you **View**, **Replace**, or **Remove** the file. If you replace it, the **Update fields from the new receipt?** dialog asks whether to **Update fields** or **Keep my entries**. Review the form again after updating because matching fields can change. If the app says the file does not look like a receipt, you can try another file or attach it and fill the details manually.

## Submit and follow the result

Choose **Submit expense** when the claim is complete. A spending policy warning can appear even though the expense was submitted; it is context for review, not an automatic rejection. Open the expense to check its status. If it is rejected, read the reason, choose **Edit & resubmit**, correct the claim, and check the new status.

> Receipt upload accepts the file types shown in the drawer. If an upload fails, retry with one supported file before submitting.
