# Prepare a payroll run

> Inspect people, salary, time off, and employee changes in a payroll run, then resolve action-required items before approval.

A payroll run brings together the period's people and pay information. An administrator can use its tabs to check records before approval freezes a snapshot and creates an export.

## Review the period

Open **Payroll** and select the run you are preparing. Confirm the period before changing any item. Use **People** to check who is included and whether a person is marked as a starter, leaver, or transfer. Use **Salary** to inspect the pay data for people in the run.

## Check changes and absences

Open **Time Off** for absences that affect the period, then **Employee changes** for relevant profile or employment changes. If information on a person is wrong, correct the source record and return to the run. The employee's profile tabs are permission scoped, so ask an authorised administrator if you cannot open the needed field.

## Work through Action required

**Action required** lists review items such as missing fields, expenses, and time off. Open an item to see its details. Some issues are structural: pay cannot be calculated if, for example, two base salaries cover the same day, a work schedule does not cover a required date, or a pay item has an unconvertible currency. Correct those source records before approval. Other open review items can still permit approval, but the approval dialog warns about the risk.

If you mark a review item complete, check that it was saved. A partial save or failure message means you should reopen the item and retry rather than assuming the entire set was resolved.
