# Review time off requests

> Inspect requested dates, balance, substitute, and required evidence before approving or rejecting an absence request.

**Requests** brings time off approvals to the people allowed to review them. Open the full request before deciding, because dates, balance, substitutes, conflicts, and certificate requirements can differ by policy.

## Find the request

Go to **Tasks > Requests** and choose **Review** on the time off item. Check that it is still pending and belongs to the employee and dates you expect. The detail view shows the requested type and supporting information; read it rather than deciding from the list row.

## Check the evidence

Review the date range and day lengths against the balance preview. Look at any conflict shown for the period and the named substitute if one was provided. Some time off types require a certificate. If approval is blocked because the certificate is missing, ask the employee to upload it before trying again.

## Approve or reject

Use **Approve** when the request is ready. To decline, choose **Reject**, enter a **Rejection reason**, and confirm **Reject**. The reason is visible to the employee, so explain what needs to change. A rejected time off request is not edited in place; the employee submits a new one.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Your role determines which requests and actions you can see. A request may also be approved automatically by company policy, so it will not remain in a pending review list.

## After the decision

Check the new status in **Requests** or the employee's time off view. If a person says they submitted a request but it is absent, ask them to check its own status and confirm that it was sent.
